Coping With Depression

This is a terrible curse. To be depressed leaves you feeling dead and numb, feeling helpless and hopeless.

Hannah had a husband who loved her and it seems a reasonably peaceful prosperous and trouble free life. But she was depressed.

She was weepy, did not eat, downhearted when those around her were happy content and celebrating.

"Her husband Elkanah would say to her, “Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted??”1 Samuel 1:8

Isiah spoke of Jesus and His anointing and this scripture Jesus read when he started his ministry saying "Today this scripture is fulfilled" Luke 4

"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

Isaiah 61:1-3 NIV

In King James version it says  "garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;" Isaiah 61:3 KJV

Many people today have good family life, good finances, good friends and good health in fact good lives, yet they open their eyes each morning downhearted, with a spirit of heaviness, feeling grief in their spirit and mind  and are weepy and sad.

But it is Gods gift in Jesus that we should be free from this heaviness, and despair,  and receive healing from broken heartedness. The oil of joy and a garment of praise. This is to cause our hearts to be whole, our spirit and soul to be joyful and happy and our

mouths filled with His praise.

You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever. Psalms 30:11-12

You are not hopeless and helpless. He will fill you with joy and gladness and remove heaviness, despair, mourning and discouragement from you.

Right now turn to Him and thank Him for it.

May God bless you,

Simon Mugridge
